Canada Day is one of our favourite days of the whole year, and not just because of all the parties! There’s something a little bit magical about getting together to celebrate this great big beautiful country of ours. Check out some of our favourite, free, family-friendly events happening around the Lower Mainland this Friday, July 1!

VANCOUVER:

Canada Day at Canada Place

Starting at 10am – Free
Canada Place, Jack Poole Plaza, Surrounding Streets

One of the largest Canada Day celebrations features a daytime festival, evening parade through downtown Vancouver and a two barge fireworks spectacular.

Canada Day 2016 on Granville Island

10am-6pm – Free
Granville Island

Enjoy a full day of entertainment, music, spectacle, food, fun activities, street entertainment and more!

Celebrate Canada Day in Style

9am-8:30pm — Free
McArthur Glen Outlet Mall

Celebrations and extra savings happening all day long! Come for the yoga classes, amazing foods, a kids zone, musical performances and special sales.

Youth Celebrate Canada Day

1pm-5pm — Free
Renfrew Community Centre

This youth-organized event celebrates Canada’s history and multiculturalism with a variety of food, games, arts and crafts, performances and inflatable fun!

NORTH SHORE:

North Vancouver Canada Day Celebrations

12pm-4pm – Free
Waterfront Park

The Rotary Club of Lions Gate and the North Vancouver Canada Day Committee welcomes you to this annual celebration. Highlights include main stage performances, roving entertainers, a craft market, Food Trucks and lots of activities for all ages.

North Van Canada Day Parade

10am – Free
13th Street and Grand Blvd.

Enjoy festive floats, community groups, marching bands and more at this annual Canada Day Parade celebration. The Lion’s Club Pancake breakfast is available from 7:30 a.m. at Grand Boulevard, and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 118, 123 W. 15th St., is having a barbecue after the parade.

SURREY

Surrey Canada Day

10am-10:30pm — Free
Bill Reid Millennium Amphitheater, 176th & 64th

Highlights include musical performances including headliner Tom Cochrane with Red Rider, lots of food, midway rides and games, activities for all ages, and a spectacular fireworks finale.

BURNABY / NEW WEST:

Canada Day in Queen’s Park

Queen’s Park

A day of fabulous fun and celebrations for the entire family in Queen’s Park with performances. Enjoy exciting entertainment, interactive community display booths and our celebrated ‘Pick-a-Box’ silent auction.

RICHMOND:

Steveston Salmon Festival: Canada Day Celebration

6:30am – 4:30pm  — Free
Steveston Village

The people of Steveston have come together every year since 1945 to celebrate Canada’s birthday and the rich heritage of the community. Enjoy a pancake breakfast, Canada Day parade which features more than 100 entries, main stage entertainment, the Japanese Cultural Show, a car show, craft fair, trade show, children’s festival, food fair and the famous salmon barbecue.

TRI-CITIES / MAPLE RIDGE:

Canada’s Birthday & Coquitlam’s 125 Anniversary

Port Coquitlam Celebrates Canada Day

This family event features old fashioned fun with a country feel. Enjoy a barbecue, family fun zone, live music, a spray park and more.

Abbotsford Canada Day All-Star Sports

Celebrate Canada day with a parade, talented local performers, family fun zone, food trucks, pony rides and sports zone.

Canada Day 2016 Downtown Chilliwack

Start your day with a pancake breakfast, followed by lots of family-friendly fun including an entertainment stage, free swim and ice skating events, old fashioned games, bouncy castles and face painting, Food Trucks and market vendors, evening concerts and fireworks.

Canada Day at Harrison Hot Springs

WHISTLER:

Canada Day Celebrations in Whistler

Whistler Village

Whistler celebrates Canada Day with street entertainment, free concerts, crafts, a parade through the Village Stroll and cake.

Canada Day Pemberton

8:30am-3pm
Pemberton Community Centre

Activities include SUP and Yoga courses at One Mile Lake, dog show, Spud Run, and Canada Day Parade. Check out the Canada Day Market, featuring local businesses and food vendors. The mayor will also make a quick speech followed by the cutting of the Canada Day cake and live music.
